Project Overview

Undertaking this project was one of my most significant and favorite endeavors. Sizzling Platter required an efficient system to manage their restaurant staff schedules and time effectively. The system needed to enhance efficiency and comply with state-specific labor laws while also managing schedules and time clock functions.

Project Details

First part of this project was to build staff scheduling that could be adaptable and configurable to every type of restaurant. So research on how a store operates was a crucial piece to get right.

The second aspect of this project was to enhance clock-in efficiency. The previous system was limited to one store computer, which caused significant delays when ten or more employees attempted to clock in simultaneously. To alleviate this issue, I proposed a new approach to clock-in using personal mobile devices. However, to ensure this system wasn't abused, we implemented GPS recognition to restrict employees to clocking in within a predetermined GPS perimeter surrounding each store. This approach provided greater control while allowing employees to clock in using any device, saving time. If an employee was offsite, the system would send a warning and notify management.

This project I was the sole designer on multiple development teams to ensure that all research and use cases were heard. This took several months of research, usability tests, and labor laws were all considred.
